Injured King Penguin 'Lala' refuses to return to the wild after falling in love with his rescuers; creates a daily routine that captures everyone's hearts: 'A true tale of love, loyalty, and friendship'

From the sea to the city, Lala was found, injured, by a Japanese fisherman. After he finished his recovery, he refused to leave his new human family. His rescuers built him an air-conditioned room to stay cool, and even became a local celebrity - walking through the neighborhood every day with his penguin backpack on, collecting fish and saying hi to everyone he met.

Japan always comes up with the craziest stuff, and we say that in the most respectable and best way pawssible. We're huge fans of anime, sushi, and Japanese history, but what we're focusing on today is a special relationship between a penguin and his caregivers in the 1990s.

While fishing, a Japanese man found an injured penguin in the water. He rescued 'Lala; and nursed him back to health, fully intending to release him back into the wild after. However, Lala refused. His rescuers decided to keep him, and he became a loved part of the community throughout his time with his new human family.

Every day, Lala would put on his penguin backpack and go on his daily waddle throughout the neighborhood. What do you think this favorite place was? The fish shop, obviously! He would get a fresh, tasty treat, then continue to meet friends as he waddled home.

Japan isn't known for it's cold, frigid temperatures. In fact, quite the opposite, Japan can get very hot and humid, especially in the summer. So, Lala's "parents" built him an air-conditioned room to stay comfortable, which could not have been cheap in the 90s.

We have to believe Lala wouldn't have stayed so far away from home without a good reason, and it's clear that his rescuers loved him very much. They both sacrificed a lot to be together, and that shows true love, loyalty, and friendship.

Imagine giving up everything you know, the water, how to hunt, your natural environment, all to live with the people who saved you. It sounds crazy, especially for a penguin. But, if you get your own room, free fish without having to hunt for them, and cuddles every day, we might also be tempted to give it up.

From constantly worrying about where your next meal is coming from to getting his favorite fish every day sounds like a pretty sweet deal. While Lala isn't the only animal to choose his rescuers over the wild, he's certainly the first penguin we know of who did so.
